The Grant Writer will be responsible for developing grant proposals for All Power Labs, Inc. (APL) in cooperation with APL’s Grants Administrator. S/he will proactively communicate with leaders across the APL network to assemble information, liaise with program teammates to develop complete documentation packages and ensure grant requirements are fulfilled. S/he will be responsible for the technical writing portion of the grant documentation packages and will collaborate with the Grants Administrator on supporting document creation. The Grant Writer will ensure compliance and accuracy, adhere to and improve APL’s systems and processes, and provide exceptional and professional service to colleagues, partners, and grantors. The Grant Writer will work closely with APL’s Engineering, Finance, and Business Development teams.

Candidates must submit a resume, cover letter, and writing sample. Candidates may be asked to complete a short writing assignment during the interview process.

Duties and Tasks:

  • Synthesize complex and diverse information streams to generate proposals and supporting documents in response to solicitations.
  • Carry out external research and gather internal data to provide content for proposals, while striving to continuously build her/his own knowledge base and skillset.
  • Work in cooperation with inter-departmental teams to design projects and harmonize budgets, technical documentation, and written narratives.
  • Liaise with external partners to obtain information and design projects.
  • Look for ways to make grant writing processes efficient and to improve and promote quality.
  • Help create and maintain an organized library of grant content.


  • At least Bachelor’s degree required; BA or BS in scientific/technical field or english/writing preferred. Priority given to applicants with graduate degrees.
  • Must have a minimum of four years of experience in a similar role––e.g. grant writing, technical writing, long-form reporting. Candidates with specific grant writing experience strongly preferred.
  • Outstanding grammar and research skills required. Scientific and/or technical knowledge will also be necessary to adequately engage APL’s innovative products and areas of operation.
  • Good communication skills for working cooperatively with internal teams and external partners.
  • Must be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite and have excellent spreadsheet skills.
  • Must have a proven record of maintaining schedules and hitting deadlines.
  • Must be able to work independently and be self-motivated, while thriving in a startup company culture and fast-paced work environment.
