GEK v4.2 Gasifier Fabrication Guide – Build Your Own!

Welcome back after a quiet late summer sans Geknews posts.  Sadly, quiet on this end didn’t relate to the long planned trip down Baja.  Rather, we’ve been face down in the details of scaling our 10kw and 20kw Power Pallet production, as well as sprinting towards the finish of our first 100kw shipping container based system. This of course is not a problem, and we thank all of you for making this adventure more interesting with each passing month. The challenge now is just keeping up with the growth in interest and all of your notes.  We’re now 15 people full time at……

A Closer Look At The 2011 Power Pallet

The first edition of the 10kW GEK Power Pallet combined our Tower of Total Thermal Integration with a Kohler v-twin engine. In October of 2010 we began production of the second version, which used a Kubota 3-cylinder industrial spark-fired diesel designed specifically for use with a gaseous fuel, and a Meccalte genhead that could be configured to the requirements of the user’s energy network. This engine, when governed electronically, is stunningly smooth and quiet. Here is a feature-by-feature breakdown of the innovations that have been incorporated into the current Power Pallet line: Control Panel Mount The Process Control Unit and……

Next Workshop Weekend: June 17-19. Update on BEK production

*** FATHER’S DAY GASIFY WITH DAD WORKSHOP *** Join us at ALL Power Labs June 17th through 19th for our next Gasification and Biochar Workshop in Berkeley CA. This is Father’s Day weekend so we hope you will consider planning a father-and-son/daughter trip to All Power Labs for our workshop. It has been too long since our last workshop.  Our first quarter 2011 workshop in the Ivory Coast was canceled due to political unrest.   Then we found ourselves too busy building in-house to have one in the spring.  So we’re now giving you lots of notice for our summer workshop.  ……

CHP on the Cheap

We’re working towards a native chp system built standard into the power pallet. the goal is to make available both the hot water from the engine cooling system, as well as the hot exhaust after the pyrocoil, towards off board heating needs. we’re working on liquid heat exchangers to produce hot water for heating and hot shower water. we’re also working on hot gas to gas exchangers so you can get hot air for fuel drying and ag crop drying. There are many fancy ways to do this. bear will document these later. there are also some cheap obtainium ways……

Workshop this weekend – Lister spark conversion – 6 Gas Analyzer now in house

Gasification and Biochar Workshop this coming weekend- October 8-11 Last chance reminder! The next quarterly workshop at ALL Power Labs is coming up this weekend.   We hope you will join us for what is always a very enjoyable descent into (and back out of) the deep recesses of biomass thermal conversion. The workshop offers education, research reports and hands-on experience to bring more people to successful operation of small scale gasification and pyrolysis units. The event is open everyone, not just GEK or BEK users/owners. So come and join us while we progressively make small-scale gasification and pyrolysis a reasonable……

Powering the Future: Gasification, Biochar & the Kubota Engine

Gasification and Biochar Workshop- October 8-11 The next quarterly workshop at ALL Power Labs is coming up in less than two weeks.   We hope you will join us for what is always a very enjoyable descent into (and back out of) the deep recesses of biomass thermal conversion. The event is open everyone, not just GEK or BEK users/owners. So come and join us while we progressively make small-scale gasification and pyrolysis a reasonable proposition, adequately advanced……

CNC Laser and Stainless GEKs. BEK at Iowa Biochar conference.

CNC Laser Cut Parts and Stainless Steel GEKs We’ve recently moved to a CNC laser cutter solution for sourcing the raw gek metal parts.  For the last two years we’ve been making these in house with a CNC plasma cutter, but our throughput has outgrown the reasonableness of the plasma cutter solution. Fortunately we can use the same files to outsource to a CNC laser cutting house, and have everything show up done, clean and nicely taped together in bunches on a pallet.  The locals find this MUCH superior and do not miss the de-slagging, re-drilling and general fussing with……

Workshop report. Power Pallet 4 day / 30 hour run report

The workshop weekend was great fun and good learning as usual– and this time with a gasifier-genset running through the whole event.  Thank you again to all who joined us, and for the many new friends that came out of the process. Longest distance award this time goes to Abau who flew in all the way from the Congo, and flew back with many plans for gasification in central Africa.  The most interesting new contributors were Kyoung Ro with his talk on animal manure biochars and Devinder Mahajan for his survey of liquification pathways and related liquification technology.  Mixing in……
